Sinn Fein has launched its new policy document A New Deal for the West which outlines a new vision for the west of Ireland. Chairperson of the Stand up for the West campaign is Mayo General Election candidate Cllr Rose Conway-Walsh who believes this deal will deliver for farmers and fishermen in the west of Ireland who for too long have not been adequately represented.

The housing crisis is not confined to Dublin and the east of the Country according to Mayo Sinn Féin general election candidate Rose Conway-Walsh. She said this week: "There are families in Mayo who are living in cramped unsuitable conditions because the maximum rent limits for the housing assistance payment which replaced the rent allowance is capped at €375 monthly for a single person, or €390 for a couple or €500 for a couple with three children. In essence what this means is that tenants who are unable to secure properties for those amounts or less are not legally eligible for housing assistance."

Local Sinn Féin councillor and General Election candidate Rose Conway Walsh has criticised the Government over the huge increase in the cost of agency staff for Mayo General Hospital. The local councillor made the comments in relation to figures received in response to a parliamentary question from Sinn Féin.

There are 165 vacant council units in the county boundaries of Galway, a situation that has led one general election candidate to declare that with "thousands of people on housing waiting lists", the situation is now at "emergency levels".
